Abstract

E-Learning is deeply embedded in the lives of traditional and distance formal and non-formal education. The Learning Activity Management System (LAMS), is an open source Learning Design system for designing, managing and delivering online collaborative learning activities. It provides teachers with an intuitive visual authoring environment for creating sequences of learning activities. LAMS is "inspired" by the concept and principles of IMS Learning Design. This paper aims to present the theoretical framework of learning design and community of practice. It provides some initial ideas on how LAMS might be utilized to support the ideal of open education and the creation and dissemination of open educational resources.

Keywords: LAMS, Learning Design, Learning Community of Practice
